She is a cellist born in Evansville, Indiana who was introduced to the cello at school. She went on to study in Boston at the New England Conservatory of Music where she graduated with her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees with honours.
In her professional music career she performed as a substitute musician with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Pops Orchestra and held the position of Associate Principal Cello with the Buffalo Philharmonic. She became a member of The Philadelphia Orchestra in 1977.
For over 20 years she and her husband, William dePaasquale, and their daughter Francesca were regularly heard with the ensemble The dePasquale String Quartet. The quartet, who were resident at the Villanova University, performed with several artists that include Emanuel Ax, Christoph Eisenbach, Yo-Yo Ma and Wolfgang Sawallish and were recognised for their chamber music series. Both Gloria and her husband gave solo performances with their last performance together being at the Kimmel Center in Verizon Hall in 2010.
In the field of musical education she is on the faculty of the Luzerne (NY) Music Center and the Philadelphia International Music Festival, teaches at the New York State School of Orchestral Studies in Saratoga Springs each August and has her own private studio alongside giving performance classes and master classes each month. She is the artistic advisor of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra and artistic advisor and conductor of the PRYSM Young Artist and PRYSM orchestras which she co-founded with her husband.
On the 100th birthday of The Philadelphia Orchestra she appeared on live public television as a representative of the orchestra’s Department of Education and Community Partnerships.
Recordings she has been heard on include Peter Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 6 “Pathetique”/Dumka by The Philadelphia Orchestra.
