Geremus, Nicolas (1959-Present)

Violinist from Munich who attended the Munich Academy of Music and the University for Music in Vienna and studied with Franz Samohyl and Gerhard Schulz.

He became the first violin of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra in 1986. Other groups with whom he has worked include the Ambassade String Quartet, Dolby’s Around, Ensemble Minimal Tango, the Geremus Trio, the Johann Strauss Quartet, the Koan Project, the Modern String Quartet, the Nicolas Geremus Project, the Uri Caine Ensemble and the Vienna Symphony Jazz Project.

In November 2005, the Ambassade String Quartet teamed up with MoZuluArt for a program entitled “Zulu Music Meets Mozart”, the first of several collaborations between the two ensembles.

The Nicolas Geremus Project participated in Akkordeon Festival Wien in 2006 with accordionist and bandoneonist, Milos Todorovski.

On 20^th October 2009, Nicolas was the violinist du jour in the world premiere of The Othello Syndrome by Uri Caine in Das Neue Operhaus at Theater an der Wien.

Dolby’s Around took part in the Bregenz Festival at Lake Studio where they performed Mieczyslaw Weinberg’s “Chamber Symphony No. 1, Op. 145” on 15^th August 2010.

On 8^th November 2011, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra joined forces with the Eroica Trio for a performance of Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Concerto for Violin, Cello and Piano in C major, Op. 56” (“Triple Concerto”) in Foellinger Great Hall at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. The concert concluded with Johannes Brahms’ “Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 73”. They reprised this program at Lincoln Center in New York on 14^th November 2011.

The Uri Caine Ensemble did their own take on “The Goldberg Variations” by Johann Sebastian Bach at Jazztage Bludenz on 3^rd March 2012.

On 1^st March 2013, the Ambassade String Quartet reunited with MoZuluArt for a program entitled “Mozzzart in Africaa…” at the Al Bustan Festival in Beirut, Lebanon.
