Gaunt, Susanna (1970-Present)

She is a horn player born in New England, sometimes credited with her maiden name Susanna Drake, who studied at the New England Conservatory and earned her Bachelor of Music degree in 1992.

She went on to perform as a freelance musician in San Francisco where she played with the California Symphony. the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, the Santa Rosa Symphony and on movie soundtracks for LucasArt Productions.

Other positions she has held are third horn with the San Diego Symphony, Principal and third horn with the San Antonio Symphony and third and fourth horn with the North Carolina Symphony.  She has also been a member of the New World Symphony Orchestra and San Diego Chamber Orchestra.

In 2006 she became Assistant/utility horn with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra with which she has performed concerts and made recordings with, sometimes with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Brass.

She has been a participant at music festivals that include the Tanglewood Music Festival, Napa Valley’s Music in the Vineyards Festival and the Pacific Music Festival.

Recordings she has performed on include the soundtrack of the film Lincoln by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Live by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Brass and Morton Feldman: Coptic Light with the New World Symphony Orchestra.

Her husband is the tuba player Matthew Gaunt.
