Fisher, Mina

She is a cellist, artistic director, teacher and playwright who studied at Indiana University where her teachers were Janos Starker and Fritz Magg.  She then went on to study in Vienna with the French cellist Frank Navarra and in Brazil with the cellist Aldo Parisot.  In competition she was the winner of the Friends of the Music Award and the Bryan Young Artists Award.

She became Principal Cello in orchestras in Costa Rica and New Orleans and in 1979 joined the Minnesota Orchestra.  She retired from the orchestra in 2010 after performing with them for 30 years.

As a chamber musician she has been a member of the Ensemble Capriccio  where she was involved in the commissioning of many piece for string trio.  She is also a member of the Bakken Trio, which she became artistic director of after her retirement.

Once retired she started writing the musical drama Nadia about the acclaimed French composer and teacher Nadia Boulanger. It resulted in a one-act drama featuring music by composers that Nadia had been influenced by as well as ones that were her students.  It has since been performed at many arts venues in Minnesota.

She has performed on recordings that include Chamber Music of Stanislaw Skrowaczewski and Stanislaw Skrowaczewski: String Trios with Ensemble Capriccio, With Gratitude by David Haas, Marty Haugen and Michael Joncas and Stephen Paulus: A Chamber Fantasy with the Minnesota Orchestra.

In the field of musical education she has been a private teacher  and taught at the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies.
