Fischer, Franz Michael

Concertmaster, educator and violinist who started playing at three years of age and attended the Vienna University of Music. His teachers included Josef Drevo, Michael Frischenschlager, Ernst Kovacic and Tibor Varga. He went on to become the first violin of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and the principal concertmaster of Wiener Concert-Verein.

On 8^th November 2011, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra teamed up with the Eroica Trio for a performance of Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Concerto for Violin, Cello and Piano in C major, Op. 56” in Foellinger Great Hall at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. They reprised the “Triple Concerto” at Lincoln Center in New York on 14^th November 2011.

Franz was the director and soloist when Wiener Concert-Verein interpreted Astor Piazzolla’s “Four Seasons of Buenos Aires” at Konzerthaus Weinviertel on 13^th April 2012 and the Villach Congress Center on 7^th May 2012.

On 11^th September 2012, he directed WCV in concert at Eisenstadt Haydntage. Their program comprised Luigi Boccherini’s “Menuett”, Gaetano Donizetti’s “Concertino for Flute and Orchestra in C major” and “Concertino for Oboe and Orchestra in F major”, and Franz Joseph Haydn’s “Cello Concerto in C major, Hob.VIIb:1”, “Notturno in C major, Hob.II:25” and “Symphony No. 30 in C major, Hob.I:30” (“Alleluja”). Flautist Robert Wolf, oboist Peter Schreiber and cellist Mischa Maisky were the soloists.

Anastasia Kobekina took up solo duties when Franz directed the WCV in a performance of Haydn’s “Concerto for Cello and Orchestra in D major” at Prayner Konservatorium on 16^th April 2013.
