Farrow, Larry

He is a composer, arranger, producer, conductor and keyboardist, clinician and teacher born Lawrence Grayson Farrow II who began taking lessons on the piano as a child. He went on to perform and tour the world with the Albert McNeil Jubilee Singers when he was a teenager and study at the University of Southern California.

As a conductor he has worked with many notable American orchestras and Pops orchestras from cities that include Buffalo, Denver, New Orleans Rochester and San Francisco.

In the field of composition his works include Spiritual Roots for chorus and orchestra, premiered by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, as well as various religious and secular choral works and music that was used on the TV series Los Angeles History Project: Ode to Central Avenue. He composed the original music for What Would Jesus Do? as well as taking on the role of Minister of Music at the National Black Theater Festival productions and which led to the Los Angeles NAACP Theater Awards giving him a nomination for Best Producer. He also had his “Fanfare for the Caregivers” for orchestra and chorus performed at the Capitol Building on Memorial Day in 2009 with the narration being given by General Colin Powell. His arrangements have been used by Disney.

His professional career in music has seen him being a musician/composing/arranging/conducting and producing for many popular acts and just a very few of these include Harry Belafonte, Johnny Bristol, Bill Cosby, First Cousin’s Jazz Ensemble, Aretha Franklin, En Vogue, La Toya Jackson, The Jacksons, Ann Margret, Peaches & Herb, Demis Roussos and Nancy Wilson.

As you’ll appreciate his album output is extensive and far too many to list, but a small selection includes Remember Who You Are by Norman Connors, That Special Time of Year by Gladys Knight, That’s What Friends are For by Johnny Mathis and Deniece Williams, Disco Gardens by Shalamar and Stronger Than You Think I Am by Edwin Starr.

In the field of musical education he is a Professor of Contemporary Media at Florida State University’s School of Music. He has also work in New York at the Harry Belafonte African-American as a clinician and attended symposiums where he has given presentations on “MIDIand Music into the 21^st Century”.
