Eteme, Janice Chandler

She is a soprano from Baltimore, Maryland, who studied for her degrees in vocal performance at Oakwood College and Indiana University.

Her career has seen her performing with a who’s who of American choruses, music festivals and orchestras and just a small selection of these include the Aspen Music Festival, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Blossom Music Festival, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, Colorado Symphony, Florida Orchestra , Grand Teton Music Festival, Houston Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Minnesota Orchestra, Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Nashville Symphony, Pacific Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, Phoenix Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony, Rochester Philharmonic, Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and San Diego Symphony.

Her appearances with these orchestra as well as many others have entailed her with numerous acclaimed conductors such as Christoph von Dohnanyi, Charles Dutoit, Hans GrafNeeme Jarvi, Carlos Kalmar, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Stefan Sanderling, Robert Shaw, Leonard Slatkin, Robert Spano and Edo de Waart among many others.

Giving highly acclaimed soprano performances during the course of her career have been done on a national and international level and she has appeared in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the New Jersey Symphony, Strauss’s Last Four Songs with the Baltimore Symphony, Haydn’s Die Schopfung with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra,  Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas Brasilieras No. 5 with the Orchestra National de la Pays de la Loire,  Orff’s Carmina Burana with the Milwaukee Symphony, Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess with the Choral Arts Society of Washington and Opera de Lyon, Tippett’s A Child Of Our Time with the Dallas Symphony, Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 with the Santa Cecilia Orchestra and Mendelssohn’s Elijah with the San Diego Symphony.

Some of the recordings she appears on include her own Devotions,  Dvorak’s Te Deum with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, Hannibal Lokumbe’s Dear Mrs Parks, Star Over Bethlehem by Norman Scribner, Oratorio, Robert Shaw Christmas: Angels on High by Robert Shaw and the world premiere of Maslanka’s Mass.
