Erickson, Lynn

Composer and trumpeter who attended Bethel University, Chisholm High School and the University of Minnesota, and studied with David Baldwin, Vincent Cichowicz, Don Hakala, Charles Schlueter and Susan Slaughter.

On 16th October 1983, she participated in the Plymouth Music Series as a member of the orchestra that accompanied bass-baritone LeRoy Lehr on two Brahms pieces:  “Four Serious Songs, Op. 121” and “Triumphal Hymn, Op. 55” with the Dale Warland Singers and Plymouth Festival Choir.

She gave the world premiere of “Flight Concerto for Trumpet and Strings” by Albert Biales with the St. Paul Civic Symphony in 1984.

In 1991, she became a member of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra.  Other groups with whom she has worked include the Minneapolis Pops Orchestra, the Minnesota Orchestra, Musical Voices Maui, the Roseville String Ensemble and the Summit Hill Brass Quintet.

She helped christen the Women’s Sports Pavilion at the University of Minnesota on 11th December 1994 when she premiered “Fanfare for the Women” by Libby Larsen.

On 23rd June 2008, she delivered the world premiere of “Invocation and Remembrance” by Linda Tutas Haugen with Kraig Winschitl at the American Guild of Organists National Convention.

She and fellow trumpeter Manny Laureano performed “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the Minnesota Twins’ game on 25th May 2010.

On 12th and 13th August 2011, she took part in the Maui Summer Masterworks Festival.  The program comprised Johann Sebastian Bach’s Magnificat in D major, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Vesperae Solennes de Confessore” with Musical Voices Maui, and Antonio Vivaldi’s “Concerto for Two Trumpets” with Pam Humphrey.

Members of the SPCO appeared at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Mahtomedi and Central Lutheran Church in Minneapolis on 24th and 25th January 2013, respectively, for a performance of The Four Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi.

In the field of music education, she has adjudicated at the Schubert Club Scholarship Competition, and served on the faculties of Augsburg College, Macalester College and St. Olaf College.
