Eder, Josef (1965-Present)

He is a horn player born in Mariazell, Austria, who gained his interest in music when he was very young.   He began to learn to play instruments starting first with the recorder before moving on to the piano and then the horn.

In 1979 he entered the Graz Music School, where he was the second place winner of the Young Musicians Competition in 1981.  He left the school in 1984 and had already begun studying the French horn at the Arts Graz. He graduated with a diploma and distinction from there in 1987.

Working as an orchestral and chamber musician he toured as a member of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra and in 1988 joined the Bruckner Orchestra Linz.  He then relocated to Germany in 1990 and worked with various ensembles and orchestras over the next year.

In 1991 he took on the position of 3rd Horn with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and since then has played in numerous concerts and on recordings.  He has also performed as a member of the Johann Strauss Ensemble of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.

In 1996 he was a guest artist with the Altenberg Trio Wien for a programme of works by Joseph Haydn and in 2011 he and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra performed with The Eroica Trio.
