He is a trumpet player who studied at the Baldwin-Wallace College’s Conservatory of Music where he earned his Bachelor of Music degree in 1977. He went on to the New England Conservatory of Music where he earned his Master of Music degree in 1979.
He performed with the Boston Symphony, the Boston Pops and was Principal Trumpet with the Opera Company of Boston. In 1982 he joined the Montreal Symphony Orchestra as Associate Principal Trumpet, also performing as a soloist, and remained there for 9 years. In 1992 he became a member of The Philadelphia Orchestra and spent 27 seasons there before retiring in 2020.
Recordings he has performed on include Peter Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 6 “Pathetique”/Dumka by The Philadelphia Orchestra and Klangraum (So Klingt Denkmalschutz) by various artists.
In the field of musical education he has been a guest professor of trumpet at the Eastman School of Music and the University of Michigan. He has previously been a faculty member of Rowan University and Montreal’s McGill University and more recently has been on the faculty of Boyer College of Music and Dance at Temple University and Rutgers University.
