He is a singer-songwriter, guitarist, producer, composer, arranger and photographer born in Texas who started to play the guitar when he was 9 years old. He performed in several groups in his local area and went on to spend a year at the North Texas State University.
While still young he became acquainted with the country music singer Roy Clark who invited he and his family to see a recording of Hee Haw in Nashville. He enjoyed his time there so much that he made the decision to stay and performed with the band Brass Monkey.
Over the next several years he performed with various bands until he worked on a session being produced by Kenny Rogers in 1977. This was a turning point for him as he was hired by him and has since spent more than 40 years with him as his guitarist.
Although touring and recording with Kenny Rogers, he has also worked with numerous other artists. A few of these include Garth Brooks, Ray Charles, Sheena Easton, Faith Hill, Al Hirt, Gladys Knight, Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald, Bill Medley, Willie Nelson, The Oak Ridge Boys, Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie, Smokey Robinson, Mel Tillis, Travis Tritt, Phil Vassar and Trisha Yearwood along with countless others.
He has recorded several of his own albums which are Lullaby of Birdland, Stardust, I Will Always Love You, No Boundaries and Unforgettable and others he has appeared on include Gypsy Honeymoon: The Best Of… by Kim Carnes, Blue After Hours by Dan Jacobs, Jazz Standard Time by The Jacobs Brothers and Always In Love, Back to the Well, Christmas from the Heart, The Gambler, If Only My Heart Had a Voice, Love Songs and With Love by Kenny Rogers.
