DiYanni, Karen

Violinist from Bedford, New York, who attended the Peabody Institute of Music at Johns Hopkins and Yale University, from whence she earned an Artist Diploma and Master of Music degree.

In January 2001, she became a member of the New York Pops Orchestra.  Other groups with whom she has worked include the American Composers Orchestra, the Artemis Chamber Ensemble, the Brooklyn Philharmonic, the Danny Rivera Orchestra, the DiCapo Opera Orchestra, Ensemble 212, the Long Island Philharmonic, the Manhattan Chamber Orchestra, the Mimesis Ensemble, the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra, the National Repertory Orchestra, the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, the New York Chamber Symphony, the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Orchestre Chambre de Francais, Recontres Musicale d’Evian, the Spoleto Festival Orchestra, String Angels, and the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra.

On 14th November 2006, she played violin with the Arc Duo at the Diller-Quaile School of Music in New York.

The Artemis Chamber Ensemble participated in a Wall to Wall Bach concert at Symphony Space on 17th May 2008, when they performed Cantata No. 82 (Ich habe genug) with baritone Christopher DeVage and Magnificat in D major, BWV 243 with the Purchase College Chorus.

On 19th March 2010, she and violinist Claudia Chopek, violist Lara Hicks and cellist Eleanor Norton offered string support to McGinty and White in a live concert at Bowery Electric in the Big Apple.

She was a special guest of the Pierrot Lunaire ensemble in a program entitled “Lunatics at Large” on 9th December 2010.  The recital, which focused on composers from the Second Viennese School, included “Kammersonate” by Hans Werner Henze, “Lamentation and Satire” by Mohammed Fairouz, “Palmstrom” by Hans Eisler and “Vier Stucke” by Anton Webern.

In the field of music education, Karen has served as a violin coach for the Carnegie Hill Orchestra, the Concert Orchestra, the InterSchools Orchestra of New York, the Morningside Orchestra, and the Turtle Bay Orchestra.

She performs here with McGinty & White on “Everything is Fine”…
