She is a violinist born in Chicago, Illinois, who comes from a family where her father, Joseph, was a double bass player with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and her mother, Bonita, is a violinist with the Lyric Orchestra of Chicago. Her sister, Giovanna, is a health care worker in Chicago. She began learning the violin when she was four years old and studied at the Music Institute of Chicago, performing her first solo with the Kishwaukee Symhony when she was fifteen. She went on to study at the Cleveland Institute of Music and the Juilliard School.
She became a member of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in 2005 and went on to take the post of Principal Second Violin of the Minnesota Orchestra in 2008. In 2013 the music director Riccardo Muti appointed her to the First Violin Section of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
As a soloist and chamber musician she frequently participates on the CSO‘s Chamber Music series and others in the Chicago area and is Concertmaster of Music of the Baroque. She has also performed as a soloist on Mozart’s Violin Concertos Nos. 3 and 5 with the Minnesota Orchestra, at the orchestra’s Sommerfest in 2009 and the A Celebration of the Seasons classic concert.
She is a founding member of New Music Detroit which promotes contemporary music and holds an annual 12-hour marathon called Strange Beautiful Music. Other orchestras and ensemble she has performed with include the Cleveland Institute of Music Orchestra, Cleveland Pops, Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings, Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra, the Pine Bluff Symphony Orchestra
Recordings she has performed on include her featuring on Quintet For Clarinet and Strings/Trio for Clarinet, Viola and Piano/Sonata for Two Accordions by Kalevi Aho and The Harpsichord in the New Millennium by Asako Hirabayashi along with Color Field by the James Matheson String Quartet and Smoke – Music of Marc Mellits by New Music Detroit.
She is married to the percussionist Ian Ding.
