He is an oboist and teacher born in Mulheim an der Ruhr, Germany who studied oboe and later Early Music Performance Procedures. As a competitor in the Young Musicians Regional Competition four times between 1975 and 1981 he was awarded a scholarship by the Oskar und Vera Ritter Foundation three times. He also won the Culture Prize of Mulheim an der Ruhr in 1978.
In 1989 he became a member of the musikFabrik ensemble and remained with them until 1993. In 1995 he joined the Klangforum Wien.
He has performed as a first oboist with orchestras and ensembles that include the Bach Collegium Stuttgart, Gabrieli Consort and Players, Kolner Kammerorchester, Neues Orchester Koln, Robert Schumann Chamber Orchestra and Stuttgarter Kammerorchester. Other orchestras and ensembles he has performed with include the Aulos Quintett, the Munich Chamber Orchestra, Musica Antiqua Koln, the Sabine Meyer Wind Octet and the Zelenka Ensemble.
