Cramer, David

He is a flautist born in Cleveland, Ohio who studied and graduated from the Curtis Institute of Music.

He became a member of the Montreal and Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestras and in 1981 he became an Assistant Principal Flute with The Philadelphia Orchestra and rose to Associate Principal Flute in 1984.  He retired from the orchestra in 2018 after 37 seasons.

Aside from his orchestral duties he is a chamber musician who performs regularly in the Philadelphia locale.   As a soloist he has performed with many orchestras outside The Philadelphia Orchestra that include the Haddonfield (NJ), Main Line, Pittsburgh and West Jersey Chamber symphony orchestras and the Temple University Orchestra.  He has also participated in the Central City Opera Festival and Tanglewood Festival.

Recordings he has performed on include Inverno Azul (Blue Winter) by Cynthia Folio and Peter Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 6 “Pathetique”/Dumka by The Philadelphia Orchestra.

In the field of musical education he has been a faculty member of the Carnegie-Mellon University, the New School of Music, the Philadelphia International Music Festival and Temple University and played in various master classes.
