Clevenger, Alice Render (26th February 1961-23rd March 2011)

She was a French horn player born Alice Ann Render in Louisville, Kentucky who studied at Indiana University.

She met her husband, the horn player Dale Clevenger who had become a musician with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra from 1966 and they married in 1987.  Working alongside her husband, often as an assistant, she became an extra musician with the orchestra and often worked and toured with the brass section after being invited by Sir Georg Solti during the 1980s.

For one season she performed as Principal Horn in Perth, Australia as well as teaching there.

As a chamber musician she participated at several music festivals and outside of the CSO and chamber music she performed on Broadway shows and on television and radio commercials.

Recordings she performed on include Christmas with the Symphony Brass of Chicago by the Chicago Symphony Low Brass Ensemble, Impressions by Chip Davis and Christmas Song and Fresh Aire 7 by Mannheim Steamroller and Charles Argersinger: Concerto for Piano and Chamber Work.

In the field of musical education she was a faculty member at Roosevelt University in Chicago and had also previously taught at the University of West Australia.

She was diagnosed with cancer, continuing to work as much as she could over the next several years, but died from the illness in Illinois in 2011 when she was 50 years old.  A scholarship was established in her memory at Roosevelt University.
