Principal trombone of the American Classical Orchestra, American Symphony Orchestra, the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra, the New York Pops and the Stamford Symphony.
Other groups with whom he has worked include the EOS Ensemble, the Excelsior Trombone Ensemble, the Graham Ashton Brass Ensemble, the Great American Main St. Band, the Indus Valley Orchestra the London Symphony Orchestra, the New Jersey City University Symphonic Band, the New York City Ballet, the New York City Opera, the New York Philharmonic, the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic, the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Philharmonia Baroque, Solisti New York, St. Mary’s Brass, the Warner Bros. Symphony Orchestra, and the William Paterson Wind Symphony.
On 9th and 10th February 2001, he and pianist Todd Crow were the guest artists of the American Symphony Chamber Orchestra for a pair of concerts at Bard College and Vassar College. The program comprised “Concertino for Trombone, Op. 4” by Ferdinand David, “Piano Concerto No. 24 in C minor, K. 491” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and “Symphony No. 2 in C major, Op. 61” by Robert Schumann.
The Excelsior Trombone Ensemble joined forces with the Cerddorion Vocal Ensemble for a program entitled “Psalmus” at the Oratory Church of St. Bonifice in Brooklyn and the Church of St. Luke in the Fields in Manhattan on 11th and 18th November 2007, respectively.
On 31st January 2011, the makeshift Indus Valley Orchestra collected at Carnegie Hall for a performance of Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 9” (“Choral”) to benefit flood victims in Pakistan.
Richard was back at Carnegie, this time with the American Symphony Orchestra, for an all-George Crumb affair that included the modern American composer’s “Echoes of Time”, “Star-Child” and “Variazioni for Large Orchestra” on 19th April 2012.
His Broadway credits include Billy Elliot: The Musical, Candide, A Chorus Line, Cyrano: The Musical, 42nd Street, Gypsy, The King and I, Mary Poppins, The Music Man, The Sound of Music, Spamalot, Tarzan: The Musical and Three Penny Opera. He was also the lead trombonist in a production of The Frogs by Stephen Sondheim at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.
Recordings on which he can be heard include Bugs Bunny on Broadway with the Warner Bros. Symphony Orchestra, the original Broadway cast recording of The Frogs, Hearing the Call: 20th Century American Brass Music with St. Mary’s Brass, Music for Organ, Brass and Timpani with the Graham Ashton Brass Ensemble, Silks & Rags with the Great American Main St. Band, and the 2005 New York concert cast recording of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s South Pacific.
In the field of music education, he has served as a chamber ensemble coach and professor of trombone on the faculties of the New Jersey City University and William Paterson University.
