He is a trombonist and arranger who studied at Wheaton College with his teachers being the former Chicago Symphony Orchestra members Arnold Jacobs and Edward Kleinhammer.
He went on to join the North Carolina Symphony, which he performed with for three years before spending six years with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra from 1980 to 1986. He became a member of The Philadelphia Orchestra in 1986 as Second Trombone and retired in 2020 after 34 years service.
As an arranger and transcriber he has published several transcriptions for music for brass instruments on his CEC Music website.
Recordings he has performed on include Gabrieli for Brass by The Canadian Brass, Peter Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 6 “Pathetique”/Dumka by The Philadelphia Orchestra, Rimsky Korsakov: Concerto for Trombone and Military Band by the Temple University Wind Symphony and Silver Burdett Music Book 3 Record 6 by various artists.
In the field of musical education he has been on the faculties of Temple University and the Peabody Conservatory of Music and held many master classes.
