Caldwell, Richard

He is a violinist, music director and conductor who studied for his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Violin Performance at Western Michigan University.

He performed in the Kalamazoo Symphony as a graduate and went on to join the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra in 1973 where he has performed as concertmaster.  He retired from the ESO in 2018 after 45 years service with the orchestra.

He has been a music director and conductor of The Edmonton Medical Professional Orchestra (TEMPO) that was founded in 2000 and is the resident music group for the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital.  He is also a co-founder of Nova Musica where he was a conductor for ten years.

Recordings he has performed on out-with the ESO include Summer ’67 by various artists.

He married the now retired Edmonton Symphony Orchestra cellist Gillian Caldwell in 1980.
