Buchmann, Michael (20 September 1968-Present)

Violist from Vienna, Austria, who attended the University of Music and studied with his father, Leopold Buchmann, Siegfried Fuhrlinger, Franz Samohyl and Tomislav Sestak.

He furthered his education at Konservatorium Wien where he studied trumpet with Mariano Abadias, Karl Brugger, Hermann Schober and Karl Steininger.

Groups with whom he has worked include Ambassade Orchester Wien, the Ambassade String Quartet, the Franz Lehar Orchestra, the Johann Strauss Ensemble and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.

In 1998, he and Alexander Kaspar established their own music agency, Buchmann & Kaspar OG. It started out as a way to promote Ambassade Orchester Wien, but quickly blossomed into a huge enterprise, organizing musical events throughout the world and working with approximately two-thousand artists.

Michael was one of several musicians who participated in The Koan Project in Brahms Hall at Musikverein Wien on 9^th March 2009. The multi-media presentation combined music by soprano Lana Cencic with artwork by Ty Waltinger.

On 8^th November 2011, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and Eroica Trio interpreted Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Concerto for Violin, Cello and Piano in C major, Op. 56” (“Triple Concerto”) in Foellinger Great Hall at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. The concert concluded with Johannes Brahms’ “Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 73”.

Michael took part in a chamber music concert at Volkshaus Deutsch-Wagram on 6^th April 2013 that included Beethoven’s “Serenade, Op. 8”, Frederic Chopin’s “Waltz in E flat major”, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Trio in E flat major” (“Kegelstatt-Trio”), Franz Schubert’s “Trockne Blumen” and Carl Maria von Weber’s “Concertino in E flat major”.
