Bruno, Lou

Bassist, double-bassist and educator who has been a member of the American Symphony Orchestra and the New York Pops.

On 22nd November 1980, he was one of the orchestral musicians who performed “Music at the Movies” in honour of Aaron Copland’s 80th birthday at Symphony Space.

He was busy on Broadway in the 1990s and new millennium with productions of Bells Are RingingDr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas!End of the RainbowFlower Drum SongA Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the ForumIrving Berlin’s White Christmas, and Putting it Together.

In the spring of 1998, he took part in a revival of As Thousands Cheer by Irving Berlin and Moss Hart at the Greenwich House.

He helped accompany Elaine Stritch for a series of engagements at Café Carlisle in the 2000s.

On 7th September 2008, he and Ian Finkel, Susan Panny and Joseph Rukowski delivered the world premiere of Elliot Finkel’s “Quintette in C for Xylophone, Clarinet, Horn Bass and Piano”, with the composer at the keys. They did the same for “Ziggy and Pauly” by Ian Finkel with narrator Brian McNally after the intermission at Mannes College New School for Music.

He and pianist Rob Berman, woodwind musician Steve Kenyon, guitarist Brian Koonin and violinist Antoine Silverman accompanied Kate Baldwin in her cabaret show, “Let’s See What Happens”, at Feinstein’s on 13th December 2009.

On 14th June 2011, he and his jazz quartet performed “All the Things You Are”, “I Remember You” and “My Romance” at Testo’s in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Recordings on which he appears include: the cast recordings of As Thousands CheerFlower Drum SongA Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and Wonderful Town; the soundtrack of Baby BoyElaine Stritch: At LibertyKristina: At Carnegie Hall; and, Mystery by Diane Gibbs.
