Brubaker, David

He is a violinist born in Tucson, Arizona to a family where his parents were both members of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra as well as music teachers. His three siblings are also musicians that have performed with the Tucson and Houston Symphony Orchestra. He played the oboe and studied the violin while growing up and was a member of the Tucson Boys Chorus, which he toured the USA with. He studied at Washington University in Seattle, where he performed with the Grand Rapids Symphony and then went to the Manhattan School of Music and the Rice University Shepherd School of Music where he earned his degrees in violin performance.

He went on to perform with the Houston, Oregon and Pacific Symphony Orchestras and became a member of the second violin section of the Minnesota Orchestra in 2003. He later became first violin in 2008 and in 2014 season took the position of Acting First Associate Concertmaster.

As a chamber musician he has performed “Trio for Horn, Violin and Piano” by Brahms at the 2014 Sommerfest and participated in many of the Minnesota Orchestra’s chamber music programs. He has also performed with The Last Stand Quartet and at the Lakes Area Music Festival.

His solo performances have included Double Concerto by Brahms, Violin Concerto by Khachaturian and the Four Seasons by Vivaldi.

Recordings he has performed on include Christopher Rouse: Symphony No. 2/Flute Concerto/Phaethon by the Houston Symphony Orchestra and Orchestral Works by Tomas Svoboda by the Oregon Symphony Orchestra.
