Brown, Loren

He is a cellist whose early career saw him performing in front of White House and Department of State dignitaries as a member of the US Navy’s Navy String Quartet. Around that same time he held the position of Principal Cellist of the Kennedy Center Opera Orchestra and the National Gallery Orchestra.

He went on to become Principal Cello with the Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra during the mid-1970s and a cellist with Pro Musica Nova alongside performing in various concertos and recitals.

In 1985 he became a cellist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and he has since been a soloist with the Hillard Ensemble of London in the Chicago and New York premiere of Passio by Arvo Part and with the CSO in David Ott’s two-cello concerto. He has featured as a guest musician with the Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra.

A regular performer of chamber music, he has performed with Chicago Chamber Musicians, Chicago Pro Musica and The Chicago Symphony Chamber Players and toured extensively nationally and internationally.

Recordings he has performed on include Corigliano: Symphony No. 1, Arnold Schonberg: Verkante Nacht Op. 4/PianoPieces Op. 11 & 19/Five Orchestral Pieces Op.16, Wagner: Overtures and Preludes, Soloists of the Orchestra Vol: 3 and Brahms: Violin Concerto/Sonata No. 3 by Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Music for Mandolin by Roberto Lombardo and Christmas Celebration and Christmas Extraordinaire by Mannheim Steamroller.

In the field of musical education he has been a faculty member of the Affinis Arts Foundation summer festival.

His wife is the cellist Ann Monson.
