Booth, Davyd

He is a violinist, harpsichordist and music director born in Clarksburg, West Virginia who studied violin and piano at the New School of Music from 1968. He debuted as a professional when he was thirteen years old, performed in Mexico on a concert tour when he was sixteen and toured the US over a period of four years. He gave recitals and orchestral performances with the Pittsburgh and San Antonio symphonies among others.

He became a violinist with the Philadelphia Orchestra in 1973 and since 1998 has been the orchestra’s harpsichordist and second keyboard player. He is active in The Philadelphia Orchestra Association where he has participated in hundreds of events and performed on accordion at the South Street Theater of the Living Arts in the “Musicians on the Fringe” concert in 1998.

As a chamber musician he has been the harpsichordist and co-music director for the Amerita Chamber Ensemble, performed as a member of the Philarte String Quartet for 15 years and is a member of the Wister String Quartet.

Recordings he has performed on include being a featured artist on It’s Christmas Again at Longwood Gardens and Romance, Roses & Revelry along with Frederick Delius: Piano Music by Charles Abramovic, Peter Tchaikovsky – Symphony No. 6 “Pathetique”/Dumka by The Philadelphia Orchestra and Ginastera/Turina – String Quartet No. 1/Piano Quartet in A Minor, Engelbert Humperdinck/Joseph Haydn – String Quarter in C/String Quaret Op.20 No. 2 and Grieg/Puccini/Gershwin – String Quartet in G Minor/Chrysanthemums/Lullaby by The Philarte Quartet.

In the field of musical education he has been a faculty member of the University of Pennsylvania, Rutger’s University, the New School of Music and Temple University Preparatory Department where he has conducted student orchestras. He has also given several master classes.

Outside of music he collects and grows orchids and his love of body art has led to him having 80 tattoos.
