Blovsky-Miller, Adelheid

She is a harpist and teacher born in Germany who started out by taking ballet lessons when she was four years old. Three years later she started to study the flute and piano and later went on to concentrate on the harp. She studied harp at the State University of Music in Munich.

In 1977 she became a harpist at the Vienna State Opera and remained with the orchestra until 1998. She has also performed with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and has since performed as a soloist and chamber musician, playing in countries all over the world.

As a chamber musician she has performed in a duo with the flautist Robert Wolf and with ensembles that include the Ensemble Wien-Berlin, Ensemble Vienna Flautists and Wiener Virtuosen.

Recordings she has performed on include Christmas with Placido Domingo by Placido Domingo and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, Debussy/Ravel: Chansons De Bilitis Etc. with Ensemble Wien-Berlin, Volks & Kinderlieder by Vienna Boys’ Choir and Wiener Kammerorchester and the compilation Piezas Anonimas.

She has been artistic director of the international harp competition of the Franz Josef Reinl Foundation, artistic supervisor of the European Union Youth Orchestra and became a co-organiser of the World Harp Congress in Vienna in 1987.

In the field of musical education she became a professor of harp at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna in 1985 and has taught many students, in class and at master classes, who have gone on to have successful careers.

She retired in 2015.
