Benjamin, Adria

She is a violist and conductor born in Brooklyn, New York, who took her studies in viola, violin and conducting at the Eastman School of Music, the Mannes College of Music and the Peabody Conservatory, where she won a prize for Outstanding Viola Performance.

In her career as a professional musician she has performed nationally and internationally with the American Symphony Orchestra, Amici New York, Camerata String Quartet, Eos Ensemble, the Jerusalem String Ensemble, the Jerusalem Symphony, the New York Pops Orchestra, Solisti New York and the Stamford Symphony Orchestra among others. She was also a founding board member of the New York Viola Society and has performed at the White House as well as the OK Mozart Festival and Bard Festival.

Very active in the studio she has appeared on recordings that include Duets II by Tony Bennett, Songs I Heard by Harry Connick Jr., Music for Merce by the Eos Ensemble, At the Movies by David Koz, Never Been Gone by Carly Simon, As Time Goes By: The Great American Songbook Vol. 2 by Rod Stewart, Romancing the ‘60s by Frankie Valli and Lioness: Hidden Treasures by Amy Winehouse and the original cast recording of A Christmas Carol.

In the field of musical education she has been in the Mannes Preparatpry Division since 1983 and from 2010 has been the Professor of Professional Practice. She has also been on the faculties of the Hebrew Arts School, Merrywood Music School, Peabody Conservatory and Rubin Academy (Jerusalem). She also acts as a competition judge, holds masterclasses and is a string clinician and guest conductor.
