Barr, Timothy

He is a double bass player and teacher often known as “Tim” rather than Timothy who has been active in the music industry since at least the 1960s.  He took part in the Hollywood Bowl of the Bands in 1968 where he was presented with the award for Outstanding Soloist and six years later who was given the opportunity to study in Switzerland when he was awarded a scholarship by the Institute for Advanced Musical Study in 1974.

Since the start of his career he has performed as a member of several Californian orchestras as Principal Bass including the Pasadena Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, the Redlands Symphony, the Santa Barbara Symphony and the Young Musicians Foundation Orchestra and recently held that position with the Glendale Symphony, Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, the New West Symphony and the Santa Cecilia Orchestra.

Throughout his career as a freelance studio musician and an orchestra member he has worked with countless composers, conductors, musicians, singers and groups.  Just some of these include David Benoit, Al Di Meola, Carmen Dragon, Jerry Goldsmith, James Horner, David Newman, Randy Newman, Lalo Schifrin, The Skids and John Williams.

His work on music for film and television has been extensive and he has performed on soundtracks for Bill & Ted’s Bogus JourneyThe Chronicles of RiddickThe Dead Pool, Ice Age, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Invictus, The Matrix Revolutions, Rush Hour 2 and Throw Momma from the Train.

In the field of musical education he taught the Double Bass Master Class for thirteen years at the Herbert Blomstedt Institute of Orchestra Conducting in Loma Linda, California and recently he has given private tuition at Santa Monica College.

He performs here on Indigo by Al Di Meola on the album World Sinfonia – Heart of the Immigrants
