He is a cellist born in Israel who started his classical music studies in Tel-Aviv, with the support of the American Israel Cultural Foundation, when he was seven years old. He went on to take his further music studies at the Juilliard School and conducting studies at the Curtis Institute of Music.
A participant in music competitions he won Brazil’s International Villa Lobos Competition in 1976 and six years later was the winner of the WFLN Young Instrumentalist Competition.
A renowned soloist and orchestral musician he was the Principal Cello with the American Ballet Theatre, the International Youth Orchestra and the National Orchestra of New York. He also recorded at the Jerusalem Music Center and played with several top orchestras in Israel.
He became a musician with the Concerto Soloists of Philadelphia and in 1987 became a member of The Philadelphia Orchestra. During his time with them he has been the Artistic Co-Ordinator of the Hear O Israel concert and served on the Board of Directors. His work as a chamber musician has seen him working in collaboration with artists such as Jaime Laredo, Rudolph Buchbinder and Christoph Eisenbach.
In the field of musical education he founded and is the president and artistic director of the non-profit organisation Intercultural Journeys in 2003 which presents lectures, master classes, conferences and performances and brings people together from different cultures. The organisation held multi-media concerts and cross-cultural presentations in 2007-08 in partnership with The Philadelphia Orchestra. He has also been on the adjunct faculty of the Boyer College of Music and Dance.
Recordings he has been heard on include his own Beyond Borders and Voyagers with R. Carlos Nakai.
On screen he has performed the cello on the 2002 TV documentary Thomas Eakins: Scenes from Modern Life and appeared as himself on the 2016 TV series documentary short Articulate with Jim Cotter.
